What is a food grade defoamer?
Food defoaming agents, also known as food anti-foaming agents, are widely used in the production of various food industries, including soy products, dairy, hot pot, pharmaceuticals, beverages, sugar production, soy protein extraction, soy sauce and vinegar brewing, and cigarette holder adhesives. These agents help to manage and reduce harmful foam produced during these processes.
By effectively controlling foam, food defoaming agents improve the quality and consistency of food products, enhance production efficiency, and ensure smoother processing operations. They are essential in maintaining the desired texture and appearance of food items, preventing overflows and contamination, and reducing the need for constant monitoring and manual intervention. Additionally, these agents are designed to be safe for consumption, meeting strict regulatory standards to ensure they do not negatively impact the health of consumers.

What are the ingredients of food grade defoamer?

Food defoaming agents are refined with excellent dispersing aids and emulsifiers. The main ingredients include calcium carbonate, sorbitan fatty acid esters, silicone oil, food preservatives , etc. It has the characteristics of low dosage, safe and non-toxic, and obvious defoaming effect. Currently, defoaming agents commonly used in the food processing industry are oils and aliphatic compounds; there are also emulsified silicone oils, which are food-grade silicone defoaming agents mainly composed of dimethylpolysiloxane (silicone oil). Milky white liquid emulsified with auxiliary agents.
However , in order to save costs and avoid qualification issues, some manufacturers use industrial-grade silicone oil instead of food-grade silicone oil, and sell industrial-grade defoaming agents as food defoaming agents to food processing companies, which brings problems to food production companies and food additive dealers. Huge risks, but also allow food safety hazards to flow to consumers. The difference is that INVINO food grade defoamer strictly selects raw material suppliers with sound qualifications and compliant products, follows food additive safety production regulations, controls product factory quality, and ensures the safety of the use of defoamer by downstream dealers and terminal companies.
Dosage standards for edible food grade defoamer

According to China’s “Hygienic Standards for the Use of Food Additives”, the maximum usage amount for brewing technology is 1g/kg, for soy products technology is 1.6g/kg, for sugar making technology and fermentation technology is 3g/kg, and for general industrial use, the amount is 0.5- Around 2.5‰.
Dosage of liquid edible defoaming agent:
- Manufacturing of soy products and beer: add this product at 0.2g/kg and use;
- Juice, beverage, and ice cream manufacturing: add this product at 0.5g/kg and use;
- Manufacturing of condiments, sugar and fermented products: add this product at a dosage of 0.1g/kg.
powdered edible defoaming agent: when the material to be defoamed is above 50℃, add this product at 0.1-0.3% of the weight of the material.Food safety is a major issue in any process. Therefore, you should be more cautious when choosing food grade defoamer.
