Project Description

Mining Defoamer | Foam Control for Mineral Processing & Flotation

Mineral processing faces constant foam problems across grinding, flotation, and tailings thickener circuits. In froth flotation cells, too much froth drags gangue into the concentrate (lowering grade), causes slurry pump cavitation, and risks spills at the tailings pond. Controlling it needs defoamers that stay stable in dense mineral slurry.

INVINO® makes polyether complexes and modified silicone emulsions for fast macro-foam collapse and micro-bubble de-aeration. They control foam without changing the wetting of the target minerals or interfering with xanthate / amine collector selectivity.

Challenges of Foam in Mining and Mineral Processing

Grinding & Classification

Air entrained in wet milling changes pulp density, which blurs hydrocyclone classification and hurts particle separation.

Milling Sharpness Secured
Froth Flotation Loops

Too much froth from fatty-acid or amine collectors carries gangue into the concentrate, lowering recovery grade and causing pump cavitation.

Recovery Grade Safe
Thickening & Filtration

Trapped bubbles slow slime settling in thickeners, cloud the overflow water, and cut output from vacuum disc filters.

Rapid Slime Settling
Leaching & Tailings

Acid or alkaline leaching makes foam that blocks fluid contact, slows extraction, and overflows tailings ponds.

Zero Pond Overflow

Technical FAQ for Mining & Beneficiation Operators

Q: Will the defoamer reduce the mineral recovery rate in flotation?

A: No. A poorly chosen defoamer collapses the mineralized froth layer indiscriminately and loses value to tailings. INVINO-9128 uses block polyethers that drop excess surface foam while staying fully neutral to sulfide / oxide mineral flotation selectivity.

Q: Is it effective for Wet Process Phosphoric Acid (WPA) production?

A: WPA needs a defoamer that survives hot sulfuric digestion (pH 1.0–2.0, up to 85°C). For WPA digestion and gypsum filtration loops, use our dedicated non-silicone grade INVINO-P9502.

Q: Does your mining defoamer contain silicone?

A: The flotation series is non-silicone. Dimethyl silicone emulsions can phase-separate in heavy electrolyte and leave oil slicks that foul ultrafiltration membranes or contaminate the concentrate. Our mining series uses non-silicone hydrocarbons and polyethers for a clean process.

Q: Can it be used in wastewater treatment and tailings management?

A: Yes. INVINO-9128 knocks down surfactant foam in gravity thickener overflows and tailings water recovery, speeding mud settling without disrupting polymer flocculant bridging.

Q: What is the pH range stability of your mining defoamer?

A: It keeps full foam-suppression performance across a wide pH 3.0 to 12.0 operating window.

Q: Where should we add the defoamer in the mineral circuit?

A: Dose at high-turbulence points for fast dispersion. For flotation circuits, feed continuously into the conditioner tank inlet or the scavenger launder drop box using a diaphragm metering pump.
