Powder Defoamer for Industrial Applications | High-Performance Foam Control

Powder defoamers are silicone-based antifoams formulated into a free-flowing powder by combining polydimethylsiloxane (and/or modified silicone oils) with porous carriers (such as silica, zeolite, sodium sulfate, etc.) and functional aids.
This dry form eliminates moisture, offers easy metering and blending, and ensures high-temperature / high-alkali stability, making it ideal for powder detergents, dry-mix mortar, agrochemicals, industrial cleaning powders, and other solid formulations where liquid antifoams are inconvenient to dose.

Frequently Asked Questions about Powder Defoamer

Q: How should I add the powder defoamer? +

The best method is Dry Mix. Please mix the powder defoamer thoroughly with other dry powder ingredients (cement, sand, etc.) before adding water.

We do not recommend dissolving it in water separately beforehand, as it may affect the dispersion efficiency.

Q: Can it disperse well in cold water (winter construction)? +

Yes. INVINO powder defoamers are engineered with excellent wettability. They disperse quickly even in cold water environments (5°C - 10°C), ensuring consistent performance during winter construction projects.

Q: Will it affect the strength of concrete or mortar? +

No negative effect. In fact, by removing air bubbles, it makes the structure denser, which can potentially improve the compressive strength and surface smoothness of self-leveling cement and grouts.

Q: What are the main applications? +

It is widely used in dry-mix mortar systems, including:

  • Self-leveling cement
  • Tile adhesives & Joint fillers
  • Wall putty (Skim coat)
  • Oil well cementing & Gypsum boards
Q: How to prevent caking during storage? +

Powder defoamers are hygroscopic (absorb moisture). It is crucial to store them in a cool, dry place and keep the bag tightly sealed when not in use.

Do not stack pallets too high to prevent pressure caking at the bottom.

Selection & Usage Guidelines

⚙️ Process Conditions

Consider temperature, alkalinity, shear, and any spray-drying steps when selecting a grade.

  • Key Point: Select the defoamer that fits your process conditions (temperature, pH, shear).

Compatibility Check

Verify with your builder/surfactant/mineral package; run bench tests to confirm no adverse spotting or separation.

  • Key Point: Always confirm product compatibility before large-scale application.

Dosage

Start at 0.05–0.2% w/w for detergents; 0.05–0.3% for dry-mix mortar; 0.1–0.5% for agrochemical powders—optimize per trial.

  • Key Point: Begin with the minimum effective dosage and optimize through trials.
