Fatty Alcohol Defoamers & Deaerators (Alcohol Based Antifoam)

High-Performance Degassing for Paper Machines

INVINO fatty alcohol defoamers are premium non-silicone solutions designed specifically for the papermaking wet-end and white water systems. Often referred to as deaerators or alcohol-based antifoams, they effectively eliminate entrained air bubbles in the slurry without impacting fiber bonding.

Unlike silicone alternatives, our fatty alcohol series has zero impact on sizing, making it ideal for the production of special papers, cardboard, and grades requiring sensitive additives like wet strength agents. They offer excellent water dispersibility and significantly improve drainage and sheet formation.

Superior Knockdown Speed in Papermaking White Water

Instrumentation

  • Cyclic Bubbling Instrument: Used to simulate the papermaking white water system.
  • White Water Source: Collected from under a cattle cardboard

Defoamer Samples : INVINO-5045 , Customer sample 1#, 2#,3#

Test Method

  • Preparation: Prepare a 500 mL measuring cylinder and add 200 mL of white water. Maintain the water temperature at 45°C during the entire testing process.
  • Bubbling Process: Start the bubbling until the foam volume reaches 250 mL.
  • Defoamer Application: Add one drop of the defoamer sample into the measuring cylinder.
  • Observation and Measurement: Observe whether the foam is removed after defoamer addition. Record the time taken for the foam to change to successive volumes (e.g., 250 mL, 300 mL, 350 mL, 400 mL, etc.).

Notes:

  • Ensure consistent temperature control for reliable test results.
  • Follow the specified intervals for recording foam volume changes to accurately evaluate defoamer performance.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fatty Alcohol Defoamer

Q: Is this product 100% silicone-free? Why is that important? +

Yes, our Fatty Alcohol series is 100% silicone-free. This is critical for paper mills producing coating base paper or special papers.

Silicone residues can cause "oil spots" or adhesion problems during downstream coating and printing processes. Using fatty alcohol eliminates this risk completely.

Q: Does it only remove surface foam? What about entrained air? +

Actually, its main strength is Deaeration (Degassing). Unlike silicone which stays on the surface, fatty alcohol penetrates the slurry to remove tiny entrained air bubbles.

This significantly improves the drainage rate on the paper machine wire section, allowing for faster machine speeds and better fiber formation.

Q: Will it cause deposits on the paper machine felt/wire? +

No, INVINO fatty alcohol defoamers are formulated with advanced emulsifiers to ensure excellent dispersibility in white water.

Compared to traditional amide/wax-based defoamers, they have a much lower tendency to form deposits or stick to the felt, reducing the frequency of shutdowns for cleaning.

Q: What is the optimal usage temperature? +

Fatty alcohol defoamers work best at temperatures above 35°C (95°F), which aligns perfectly with most paper machine white water systems (usually 45°C - 55°C).

At very low temperatures (winter), the emulsion may thicken, but efficiency restores once it hits the warm process water.

Q: Why does the product look thick or separated in winter? +

This is a physical characteristic of high-concentration fatty alcohols, not a quality defect. In cold weather, viscosity increases.

Do not worry. Just store it indoors (above 10°C) or stir it slightly before use. The performance remains unchanged.
