Herbicide Defoamers: Foam Control for Weed Control Formulations
Foam generation is a persistent challenge during the manufacturing, packaging, and end-use application of herbicide formulations. Uncontrolled foam causes incomplete filling, tank-mix problems, and poor spraying efficiency.
INVINO® supplies specialized herbicide defoamers for various formulations — glyphosate, glufosinate, dicamba and more — for smooth operations and optimal product performance. For the full agrochemical range, see our agrochemical defoamers page.

Where Foam Hits Herbicide Formulations
- During formulation & packaging: foam slows production lines, causes incomplete filling, and creates handling difficulties — an in-can defoamer prevents this.
- During tank mixing: vigorous agitation when mixing herbicides (especially SC or WDG formulations) with water and adjuvants generates foam, making the true liquid volume hard to gauge and causing incorrect concentration and spills.
- During spray application: foam in the spray tank causes pump cavitation, inconsistent spray patterns, reduced output, and more drift — wasting product.
INVINO Herbicide Defoamer Grades
Both in-can (long-term stability) and tank-mix (rapid knockdown) options, compatible with a wide range of actives and adjuvants:
| Grade | Type | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| INVINO-2200 | Silicone (low) | Glyphosate SL & water-based herbicides — fast knockdown, storage-stable. See our glyphosate defoamer page. |
| INVINO-6225 | Silicone | High-surfactant herbicide systems — strong persistence under heavy foaming load. |
| INVINO-370 | Silicone | Herbicide EC & water-based formulations — compatible with adjuvant/emulsifier packages. |
Why INVINO for Herbicide Foam Control
- Excellent compatibility: with a wide range of actives and adjuvants (glyphosate, MSO, EC).
- Persistent control: in-can defoamers for long-term stability, tank-mix defoamers for rapid knockdown.
- Reliable performance: stable across a wide temperature and pH range for dependable field performance.
FAQ: Improving Weed Control Efficiency
Q: Can defoamers help reduce "spray drift"?
A: By collapsing tank foam, the defoamer gives a more consistent spray pattern and droplet size, helping reduce uneven application; combine with anti-drift adjuvants for full drift control.
Q: Is it compatible with glyphosate and glufosinate solutions?
A: Yes — and with dicamba and other water-based actives and adjuvants. Confirm with a compatibility test in your formulation.
Q: Does the defoamer affect wetting and spreading on leaves?
A: No. At correct low dose it controls process foam without interfering with the wetting and spreading the herbicide needs.
Q: Should I add it during manufacturing or in the spray tank?
A: Both — in-can defoamers give formulation stability, tank-mix defoamers give rapid knockdown during application. Choose based on where foam appears.
Q: Will the defoamer clog the fine spray nozzles?
A: No. INVINO grades are well-emulsified and dosed low, dispersing cleanly without deposits that clog nozzles.
